![]() More: New restaurants bring East Asian cuisine to East Bremerton Pantouw-Jones was looking for a place to open a sit-down location for Amolë when the Anchor Coffee space became available. But without a hood, the location wasn't a good fit to run a restaurant like Amolë. So the family set on opening Bubz, Pantouw-Jones said. It does not have a physical dine-in location. The restaurant serves Indonesian and Asian cuisine for takeout, delivery and at pop-ups sites such as local breweries. ![]() The family opened Amolë in December 2020. She views Kitsap County as her home.īringing a boba shop to Kitsap wasn't Pantouw-Jones' initial plan. Originally from west Papua in Indonesia and having family in the U.S., Pantouw-Jones moved from Indonesia to California at 10 and then settled in Kitsap County, studying and working here, she said. "We tried to incorporate some Indonesian culture in there," Pantouw-Jones said. Ube is a purple yam from the Philippines and lychee and Calaman tea are common fruit and drinks in Indonesia. Pantouw-Jones said she tried to create drinks that are linked to her family's Southeast Asian culture. More flavors will appear on the menu in a few weeks, she said. Bubble tea beverages include Calaman tea with lychee jelly and black milk tea with brown sugar and tapioca pearls. ![]() Pantouw-Jones' family renovated it earlier this year and opened Bubz at the end of July.Ĭurrently, the cafe serves a variety of flavors of bubble waffles, such as OG (original) strawberry and Nutella waffle and ube Oreo waffle. The store is on the first floor of the Bridgeview Medical and Professional Center building, 2601 Cherry Avenue, in a space previously occupied by Anchor Coffee. Having three kids ages 8, 12 and 13, Pantouw-Jones also hopes to create a space where teen kids can hang out with friends, she said. "It's really because there's not many bubble tea in town and also there's not many bubble waffles in town," Pantouw-Jones said. Boba tea is a tea-based beverage commonly served with tapioca balls or other toppings, originally from Taiwan. Bubble waffles are spherical egg waffles sometimes served with ice cream or fruit, originally from Hong Kong. In choosing boba tea and bubble waffles, Pantouw-Jones said she wanted to bring two items to Kitsap that people who have to travel across the water to get. "We really wanted to create a space for our friends and family to hang out and you know, have a bubble tea place because there's not one that is specialized in bubble tea," Pantouw-Jones said. The cafe offers free Wi-Fi and welcomes customers, especially young people, to sit, chat, study or work in the cafe. So Pantouw-Jones, her brother Tofan Pantouw and her husband, Ronell Jones, opened Bubz to sell boba, also known as bubble, tea and bubble waffles. Pantouw-Jones, originally from Indonesia, grew up in Kitsap County and had to drive to Tacoma or Seattle for such tea shops. There was no place to get both a cup of boba tea and freshly-baked bubble waffles in Kitsap County until Sherly Pantouw-Jones and her family members opened Bubz, a cafe that serves both, in East Bremerton this summer.
